We are continuing with our study of Freak the Mighty. This week, we are working on chapters 15-19. Students have a job within a reading group; they are being given time during class to work on their chapter, but any work not completed is homework.
This week, we will also turn our attention to dialogue and how to structure/properly punctuate in preparation for next week's writing assignment.
Please check planners nightly - students will write in them daily and I will initial them.
Monday: "Dis" vocabulary (HW: rewrite ch. 20 "rescue scene"- due 9/20); dialogue video w/notes
Tuesday: Reading groups chapters 15-19
Wednesday: Additional dialogue practice; reading groups continued (6-2, 6-3; 6-1 will attend an internet safety presentation)
Thursday: "Dis" vocabulary practice/vocab HW due; Present reading groups; read chapters 21-25 for 9/25
Friday: "Dis" vocabulary quiz; figurative language & conflict quiz; dialogue review
We will continue A Long Walk to Water this week. During the course of the novel, we are taking notes and discussing how one's time, place, and culture influence them. We're also noting survival factors the characters face and how they overcome them. This will lead to a writing exercise later on. The goal is to get through chapter 12 this week.
Students continue to struggle with grammar. We are retaking a test on Friday since students' scores on a recent quiz do not indicate mastery. (Study nouns, pronouns, helping verbs)
Monday: Latin 5 assigned (HW due Wednesday, 9/19); review Grammar quiz; LWW ch. 7-8
Tuesday: Grammar 16-19 due; next grammar assigned
