Week of 5/7

6th Grade

Last day to accept late work is Friday, May 11. I am asking students to come in at lunch to finish missing poetry; all other assignments must be handled at home. Dex is up-to-date as of 5/6. Please write me (courtney.dodge02@gmail.com) with any questions.

We continue our brief study of William Shakespeare this week by reading short scenes and putting in requests to act out said scenes (via puppet shows). The scenes will be acted out next week.

In addition, we are finishing up poetry and are growing ever-closer to putting the final touches on our end-of-year books.

Vocabulary: Spanish/French/German vocabulary 1. Students have "free choice" for vocabulary exercises (e.g. poem, comic, story, word search, puzzle, etc.). Vocabulary exercises due Thursday, 5/10; quiz Friday 5/11.

Poetry:
  • AUTHOR acrostic draft written in class 5/7; final due Monday, 5/14
  • Cummings' "animal" final due 5/11 (draft handed back 5/7)
  • "I Am" final due Monday, 5/14 (draft will be handed back Thursday, 5/10)

Reading
  • Reading Log due Monday, 5/14 (Students are expected to read 20 minutes nightly minimum and respond thoughtfully to what has been written; examples are given on the Reading Log sheet. Reflections such as "I liked the characters" or "Why did she do that?" are not acceptable because they do not demonstrate any knowledge of content within the book.)
