We are beginning The Hound of the Baskervilles this week. It's slow-going for the first few chapters, but we will pick up speed considerably in the next two weeks. For this unit, we will use a study guide to aid us in comprehending the story and will practice "restatement" as a method of fully answering comprehension questions. First though, we'll do a brief author study and write "Five Fabulous Facts about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle" and turn it into a paragraph (focusing on Organization - especially transition words - and Conventions).
Students are encouraged to go on StudyIsland.com for a minimum of 30 minutes, three times weekly. The school is offering individual and group incentives for earning "Blue Ribbons." It will become an assignment beginning next week, so best to get a head start on it! Vocabulary: "Sym", "syn". Crossword puzzle due Thursday, 10/25. Quiz Friday, 10/26. Grammar: Homophones/Connotation will be given out 10/24; due Monday 10/29 Access the vocabulary here. |
