Week of 10/3
6th Grade |
Welcome to the final week of the 1st quarter - it really seems to have flown by, hasn't it? Please note: 6th grade is filling a "Gift Card Gift Basket" for the Fall Festival on Saturday, October 21. If you are able to donate any items for this basket, please deliver them to me no later than Wednesday, October 18. Thank you!
We'll spend this last week in final discussion/contemplation of Freak the Mighty, utilizing the skills that we've built throughout the unit. Students will write an Acrostic poem to describe a character of his/her choosing, incorporate figurative language into the poem, and complete a final writing assignment about the conflict the character faced and resolved. There will be a grammar packet given as homework this week. This is to prepare students for the work that we'll begin next quarter. There will not be a new vocabulary list this week; we will resume vocabulary when we return from break. Please check planners nightly - students will write in them daily and I will initial them. Monday: Begin character acrostic poem; grammar packet given for homework Tuesday/Wednesday: Continue/complete poems. Thursday: "Conflict" writing assignment/final discussion of FTM Friday: Finish "conflict" writing assignment/final discussion of FTM; grammar packet due |
7th grade |
I cannot believe that we are 1. in October and 2. at the end of the 1st quarter. Students are going to spend this week wrapping up some grammar work (conjunctions and interjections - oh boy!) and will also do a "Close Reading" in order to help with comprehension and citing evidence.
The Historical Fiction project is in full swing; selection is due Monday, October 2, and project specifications are available on this site. (See "2nd Quarter Book Project.") I have recommended that students tackle one requirement per week in order to minimize the amount of last-minute stress. Please check planners nightly - students will write in them daily and I will initial them. Monday: Return work; discuss "anchor papers"; Introduce coordinating conjunctions (due Thursday, 10/5); selection for Historical Fiction project due today. Tuesday/Wednesday: Close reading ("Put it Down") Thursday: Grammar (conjunctions) due; final discussion/writing on Close Reading Friday: Latin 1-6 review quiz |
